Winery Finery

We celebrated my wonderful friend Sherri's Birthday this weekend with a trip to Arrington Vineyards. What started out as a rainy day quickly turned into a beautiful, glorious afternoon full of friends, snacks, and of course a little wine!

We picked out a blackberry and raspberry wine to try that were insanely delicious! Then we snacked on hummus, pita chips, and cupcakes! It was pretty much perfect!

Here's the girls! Steph, Bri, me, and Sherri! D took the pics. He was such a good sport, and even played DJ for us on the way home!

There were a ton of people there, but it didn't feel overly crowded until you had to use the bathroom. There were two bathrooms in the wine tasting building. They were one toilet bathrooms. That is when I realized there was actually one hundred million people there.
We also happened to see a family taking some photos across the field from us, so we did what all normal civilized people would do and attempted to photobomb every single picture that we were in the background of. We got some stares, but mostly a lot of love from a group at a picnic table beside us. We laughed so hard it made the bathroom situation that much more dire. It was all totally worth it though.

Happy Birthday Sherbear! Here's to many many more wine drinking, laughter filled, pee inducing birthdays to come!

Candle Crush

I chose this title because I have a crush on candles and I also crushed some candles while making this and because it's a play on Candy Crush. I had to stop playing that game because it was ridiculous and it took up all of my time. Now that I stopped playing it, I can crush candles and have crushes on candles. I don't know which is worse.

So this little DIY is simple, but it's so pretty and fairly inexpensive. All you need is a mason jar and as many long candles as you can fit in it. It can be any arrangement or color you like.

We chose black and silver because they are pretty. No other explanation needed. You can usually find all different sizes, but we wanted to make them even less uniform so we cut a few of them.

That is a Ginsu knife choppy thing. You know Ginsu with their ability to cut through cans and motorcycles, and brick homes...Then they turn right around and can slice a tomato like nobody's business! What the what??? It's AMAAAAAAZING.

After you get them cut the way you like, you just stick them in the jar and it should look something like this...

Then of course you light them all and it looks like this...

Ohhhhhhhh....Ahhhhhhhhhh....

See! Super easy! They all melt differently so as they burn they should melt together at the bottom and then look really cool. I would like to try it with a bunch that drip the different colored wax!

***Disclaimer*** Be careful lighting them and make sure they aren't too close or they will melt each other. We kind of dig that, but you may not. Also be careful blowing them out because you will get wax everywhere if you just super blow them (this is not your Birthday cake folks) and it gives off a lot of smoke, but just for a minute.

You Do You

I am a firm believer in the at home spa day/night. I have done it since I was a child, literally. I started reading magazines when I was a mere little, and doing facials and manicures in my grandma's bathroom! I was always obsessed with clothes and beauty at a very young age.

So long story short, I wanted to share all this to say that every woman should treat themselves to a little beauty treatment every now and then. I only included two photos because they represent the majority of what I do. It's pretty simple and it makes me very happy!

First a facial! You don't need anything extremely expensive or elaborate. I included a few choices including $1.99 packs from Walgreens! I am starting to have a bit of a love affair with LUSH because they aren't horribly expensive (especially for a face mask) and its 100% organic. We're talking gotta keep it in the fridge because it goes bad organic.
The face wipes are great for after you rinse to get any of the leftover mask residue off your face. I love Yes to Carrots, Yes to Cucumbers, and Yes to Grapefruit (below). They smell good and they are pretty natural. Occasionally I'll steam my face before I do anything to really open up my pores. It feels so great too!

I also like to take the time to do my nails. I always do my own nails and I have fun with it (until I go to bed and wake up with sheet all over them). I try different polishes (my fave is typically Essie, but it doesn't dry very fast.) If you want them to dry faster you can try the cold water trick (stick your nails in cold water for like 5 minutes) but if you are in a hurry a matte polish dries way quicker. Sometimes I give myself a pedicure too, but most of the time I reserve my toes for the nail spa. Its a good excuse to see a friend and talk while a little person with very sharp utensils is poking at your toes. They are also most likely making fun of you for some reason, but you would never know because they don't speak english to each other. They laugh a lot though. That's why I think they are making fun... Probably totally unfounded.

While my nails dry I read magazines, and try my hardest to not mess up my nails. I still feel like that little girl sometimes that could sit forever and read a stack of magazines as tall as me.

And don't forget some good girly music!

Pug is the New Black

Last week was a busy week. Work was busy. Home was busy (mostly because we binge watched Orange is the New Black...Obsessed!). We are watching a very special little pup named Lilly for a couple of weeks and she keeps us busy. I love staying a little busy though.

Lilly is a pug and she belongs to my bestie, Sherri. She snorts all the time and I love it until she is all snortin along and blows a bunch of wet all over your face. It is not good when that happens, but we still love her.

While adding these photos I just realized I am missing one that I know I edited. I have no idea what I did with it though. Also when I just typed that last though, I missed a letter and it autocorrected it to thug. Made me giggle. Not sure why.

I have a whole other post that will be dedicated to the location (or at least a place that is near this location) that we took these photos. I got very excited when I realized that my nails matched the paint splatter outside this building almost perfectly. My job allows me to paint my nails crazy colors and show my tattoos (well some of them) most of the time and I love it. I wasn't allowed that privilege for over a year and it is amazing how draining it can be to not be able to express yourself. Maybe that's all Lilly is trying to do when she snots all over my face. She is just expressing her puggy self and I should let her be. I should also get her a tissue.

Something New

Welcome to Little City Chic. I had a new vision for my blog and I wanted to start fresh. I have been through a lot of changes in the last year and I needed to purge the past and do something that I feel is more "me". I hope you will follow along and keep up with my shenanigans!

I had to start with a fashion post, although that will not be all I post about, it will be a lot of it so I think it's fitting. I have so many ideas that I want to bring to this little space and I couldn't be more excited!!!

Summer in Nashville can sometimes be like walking on the sun, but today was amazing! There was a breeze blowing, the sun was shining, birds were chirping...I felt like I was in a Disney movie, but with beer cans, train tracks, and graffiti. Here are some flowers to help keep the Disney feels going...

Ahhh that's so much better.

I hope you will keep checking back. Not seeing your face is the best part of my day...wait...that came out wrong.
